We Believe You Training
The We Believe You training recognizes the positive impact of believing and supporting victims and survivors of sexual violence. Studies show that a primary concern for those disclosing abuse is the fear of not being believed or receiving a negative reaction. As a result, many victims don’t report their abuse or receive the help they need. We Believe You educates the general public, specifically young adults, as well as law enforcement.
Through the community-focused training, participants learn about the issue of sexual violence, trauma responses, and best practices for supporting those who disclose abuse. Education is the first step to understanding the problem and changing the narrative. The best way to learn is by listening to survivors—and that’s what We Believe You is all about.
With law enforcement, We Believe You aims to improve law enforcement’s response to allegations of sexual violence from the time of an initial report throughout the entire investigation. It provides law enforcement with education on evidence-based, trauma-informed, and victim-centered techniques designed to prevent re-traumatization and increase communication with survivors and stakeholders.
